NEUMÜNSTER, Germany, Feb. 18–Germany’s Isabell Werth and El Santo NRW won the Grand Prix Saturday as the German rider seeks to qualify a second horse for the World Cup Final in April.

Isabell and the 11-yar-old Rhinelander gelding (Ehrentusch x Rythme x Rythmus) scored 77.213 per cent with fellow German Helen Langehanenberg on Damon Hill NRW second on 75.830 per cent and Denmark’s Lone Jörgensen in third place on 71.021 per cent.

Heading into Sunday’s freestyle in the eighth of nine qualifying competitions in the Western European League–the last one will be in Gothenborg, Sweden , next week–Isabell is in fourth place in the standings.

She and El Santo have results from Amsterdam under their belt while she has ridden the rquired two competitions with Warum Nicht FRH, her 2007 World Cup champion mount, and one with Don Johnson, a third Grand Prix horse she rides for Madeleine Winter-Schutze.

Australia’s Hayley Berseford, the sole non-European in the class, placed 11th Belissimo on 67.298 per cent. This was only the second CDI competition for Hayley and the 13-year-old Rhinelander stallion whom she is campaigning for a place on the Australian team at the London Olympics this summer.
