RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Sept. 3–Isabell Werth of Germany and her 2007 World Cup champion Warum Nicht FRH captured the centerpiece freestyle at the €100,000 (US$142,000) Athina Onassic Horse Show dressage competition Saturday night, adding to her victory in the Grand Prix.
Isabell and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding was the easy winner scoring 76.700 per cent to collect €20,000 (US$28,400) in addition to the €8,000 (US$11,300) she won in the Grand Prix Friday.
Austria’s Victoria Max-Theurer on Eicehndorff placed second on 71.600 per cent and Edward Gal of The Netherlands and Interfloot Next One placed third on 71.025 per cent.
The first five places in the event held in conjunction with Global Champions Tour jumping were filled by Europeans who were flown in specially for the CDI4* in the highest level performance of dressage in history in Latin America.
The 2008 Olympic combination of Luiza Novaes Tavares de Almeida and Samba were the highest placed Brazilian combination, placing sixth on 67.175 per cent.
