LAUSANNE, Switzerland, July 8–Adelinde Cornelissen and the 14-year-old gelding Jerich Parzival are ranked No. 1 in in the latest dressage rankings, replacing Edward Gal and Totilas who filled the slot although their last competition was nine months ago.

Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris take over second place with Germany’s Ulla Salzgeber and Herzruf’s Erbe in third place.

Edward and the super-stallion Totilas had held the top spot for 19 months from Dec. 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011. Adelinde, 31, of The Netherlands, had been No. 1 for three months prior to Edward and Totilas taking over.

During their Grand Prix career, the Edward-Totilas combination claimed all three world record scores–Grand Prix, Special and Freestyle–all three dressage gold medals at the 2010 World Equestrian Games, the 2010 World Cup title and two gold medals and one silver at the 2009 European Championships.

Adelinde and Parzival won their first World Cup Final this year. The pair were team mates of Edward and Totilas at the 2009 European Championships and beat the combination in the Grand Prix Special, and again in the Grand Prix at the 2010 World Cup Final, the only combination to best Edward and Totilas at Grand Prix.

“I would like to congratulate Adelinde on taking over as world number one,” FEI Dressage Committee Chairman Frank Kemperman said. “She and Parzival have given some very powerful performances this year and I’m very happy that Adelinde is again in the pole position that she so richly deserves.”

Totilas was sold to Germany after last year’s WEG but sold horses remain on the rankings until notified by the new owner/athlete.

Totilas is now ridden by Matthias Alexander Rath of Germany who has competed the stallion four times at two different international competitions that earned the pair 1,108 points and place them in the 165th position.
