MUNICH. Germany, June 4–Richard Davison rode Hiscox Artemis in their first World Dressage Masters competition and the British combination won the Grand Prix Special Saturday to take home €7,100 (US$10,500) from the event.
Richard and the 12-year-old Westphalen gelding scored 70.646 per cent with Ireland’s Anna Merrveldt on Cotyolano second on 70.292 per cent and Germany’s Anja Plönzke and Le Mont d’Or in third on 68.042 per cent.
Although this WDM has total prize money of €100,000, the Special was an anti climax in the 1972 Olympic equestrian stadium which experienced jam packed crowds to watch Germany’s Matthias Alexander Rath compete Totilas for the first time during the previous two days.
Shawna Harding of Aiken, South Carolina, the only non-European among the seven starters from seven nations, finished sixth on 66.542 per cent. Fellow American Catherine Haddad, based in Germany, was to have competed but the show office reported she injured herself and her doctor recommended against showing.
