DEL MAR, California, April 30–In their first competition at home in a year, Steffen Peters on Ravel won the Grand Prix and with Weltino’s Magic took the Prix St. Georges–a qualifier for the Pan American Games selection trials later this year–at the Del Mar National CDI3* Friday.
Steffen of San Diego, California, and the 13-year-old KWPN gelding that he competed twice in the past year, at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky and at last month’s World Dressage Masters in Florida, scored 75.447 per cent in the Grand Prix. Guenter Seidel of Cardiff, California, competed U II in the third competition this year after six months off while Guenter recovered from a riding accident last summer, scored 70.511 per cent for a personal best since the pair began the Grand Prix just over a year ago.
Shannon Peters riding in only her third international competition on Odyssey was third with a score of 66.213 per cent,
In the Prix St. Georges, a qualifier for the U.S. selection trials for the Pan American Games later this year, Steffen Peters and Weltino’s Magic continued their string of victories with a score of 74.868 per cent. Guenter Seidel and Sundayboy, both rebuilding to their top form after injuries last year, were second on 71.886 per cent.
Steffen on Shiraz Black, the eight-year-old Sandro Hit stallion he is competing for the veteran Australian Olympian Mary Hannah, was third on 70.263 per cent. This was his first start at a CDI.
