ADDINGTON, England, April 24–Laura Bechtolsheimer rode Andretti H to their personal best Grand Prix Freestyle score Saturday in a sweep of the Addington Manor CDI3*.
In the first international competition of the year for the World Games triple silver medalist, Laura and the 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 78.550 per cent, surpassing the 78.250 per cent that had been their previous personal best awarded at Hickstead, England, last year.
The order of the top three in the freestyle mirrored Friday’s Grand Prix in which Laura and Andretti H posted their second highest score in that test since starting Grand Prix three years ago.
Fellow Briton Charlotte Dujardin riding on her Fernandez in the first international Grand Prix for the pair, scored 74.625 per cent for second place with The Netherlands’ Christa Laarakkers and Divoza Horseworld Ovation third with 73.775 per cent.
Charlotte and the 11-year-old gelding that she has owned since he was three years old was competed successfully at Grand Prix on the Continent over the winter by World Games British team member Carl Hester, who trains Charlotte.
The FEI Pony Freestyle was won by Dana van Lierop of The Netherlands on her Equestricons Day Of Diva with a score of 76.083 per cent with Britons Erin Williams on Danny B second with 74.750 [er cent and Bethany Horobin on Gigolo third on 72.083 per cent. The winning horse was previously owned and competed by Rebecca Cohen of Wellington, Florida.
Dana was also the winner of the Junior Freestyle, aboard DJ Tiesto for a score of 71.917 per cent with Britons Phillipa Hutton on Duela second with 71.417 per cent and Olivia Towers third with 70.958 per cent.
Great Britain filled the top finishes in the Young Rider freestyle with Sophie Wells on Pinocchio first on 72.083 per cent, Rebecca Drane on Half Moon Bardolino second on 69.792 per cent and Melissa Beer on Celestial King third on 69.708 per cent.
