BURBANK, California, April 1–Jan Ebeling rode the improving Rafalca to win the Grand Prix Friday in preparation for the last qualifying Freestyle in the world for the 2011 World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany at the end of the month.
Jan of Moorpark, California, and the 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding by Argentinius, were scored 69.298 per cent with Linda Zang of the United States awarding the pair 72.128 per cent and Cara Whitham of Canada 70.00 per cent.
Guenter Seidel of Cardiff, California, was second on U II with 65.830 per cent and Shannon Peters of San Diego, California, on Odyssey third on 65.766 per cent.
With the Freestyle on Sunday closing out the North American League qualifiers–Western and Eastern Europe and the Pacific are already over–Jan and Rafalca will most likely be on the way to their second World Cup Final. They competed in the Final at Las Vegas in 2009.
Jan who trains with Wolfram Wittig of Germany, showed the horse in Europe in 2009.
Earlier in the day, Steffen Peters of San Diego and Weltino’s Magic continued their winning ways in the Prix St. George3s with a score of 75.395 per cent with Guenter Seidel of Cardiff, California, on Sundayboy second with 73.596 per cent and Jan Ebeling on Sandrina third on 69.298 per cent.
The small tour is a major focus in the Americas this year with the Pan American Games, held only once every four years, scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico in October.
The Pan Am Games are at small tour and this year will be the last time that they can be used to qualify nations for the Olympics. The U.S. is the only nation from the Americas already qualified for London.
