BONEO, Australia, Mar. 19–Chantal Wigan and Ferero swept the Boneo CDI3*, Australia’s first Olympic qualifying competition, two months after she failed to make the latest national elite squad from which the London 2012 team will eventually be selected.
In the all-Australian competition at Grand Prix, Chantal and the 13-year-old KWPN gelding by Ferro scored 68.064 per cent in the Grand Prix with Mary Hanna on Umbro second on 66.468 per cent and her daughter, Gitte Donvig on Port Said 10 in third on 64.936 per cent.
In the Grand Prix Special, Chantal and Ferero scored 68.729 per cent while Gitte and Port Said were second on 65.500 per cent and Mary and Umbro third on 64.854 per cent.
Only six combinations–Mary Hanna was not among them–started the Freestyle on Saturday which was won by Chantal and Ferero with 70.975 per cent with Gitte and Port Said second on 69.975 per cent and Fiona McNaught on Ostra in third on 67.175 per cent,
No rider and horse combinations named to the Australian National Elite Squad at the end of January competed in the Boneo Park CDI3*. Those combination are Brett Parbery and Victory Salute, Heath Ryan and Regardez Moi, Lyndal Oatley and Potifar and Rachel Sanna and Jaybee Alabaster with Hayley Beresford and Relampago do Retiro the sole National Elite Holding Squad member. Brett, Lyndal and Hayley train in Europe.
