AMSTERDAM, Jan. 21–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival had an overwhelming win in the Grand Prix at the World Cup qualifier Friday ahead of the freestyle that could give the Dutch pair their third victory in the winter indoor series.
Before a home crowd, Adelinde and Parzival scored 77.170 per cent as the unanimous first choice of the five judges in the seventh of 10 World Cup qualifying competitions in the Western European League, and the first of 2011, coming one month after the year-ending event at Mechelen, Belgium. The combination won Stockholm and London events.
Sweden’s Patrik Kittel on Watermill Scandic H.B.C. showed a return to top form by placing second on 72.127 per cent with Germany’s Isabell Werth on Warum Nicht FRH, her 2007 World Cup champion mount, in third on 72.127 per cent.
The Freestyle will be held Saturday night, for which points will count toward the standings in the Western European League for the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany, April 27-May 1.
Reigning World Cup champion Edward Gal is already qualified for the 2011 Final by starting in two competitions in this winter’s series. Totilas, on whom he won the 2010 title, has since been sold to Germany.
Only Isabell Werth and Great Britain’s Richard Davison could hope to move to the top of the WEL standings–if one of them were to win the freestyle on Saturday and claim the maximum of 20 points. For Isabell it would put her alone in the lead with 77 points, three points ahead of current leader, Ulla Salzgeber, also of Germany, who is not competing in Amsterdam. A victory by Richard would put him one point ahead of Ulla.
