LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Oct. 13–Steffen Peters and Ravel of the United States zoomed up the International Equestrian Federation Rankings to 4th place from 35th based on their World Equestrian Games performances, while Edward Gal and Moorands Totilas maintained their No. 1 spot.
Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival had earned enough points throughout the year to stay at No. 2 despite the tongue nick that drew blood and led to their automatic disqualification during their opening Grand Prix ride at WEG in Kentucky.
Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris, cementing their superstar status with three silver medals at WEG, maintained their third place in the rankings.
The placing for Steffen and Ravel, a 12-year-old Contango gelding owned by Akiko Yamazaki, was the most dramatic change in the top 30 rankings as they competed in only three shows in 2010 before WEG, at the Exquis World Dressage Masters in Palm Beach, Florida and two at Del Mar near their base in San Diego, California. The pair won two individual bronze medals.
A big jump also was logged for the Spanish combination of Juan Manuel Muñoz Diaz and the PRE stallion Fuego XII to 11th place from 17th and also for Australia’s Brett Parbery on Victory Salute moving to 35th place from 42nd.
