ERP, Netherlands, Aug. 31–Anky van Grunsven, Olympic, World Equestrian Games and World Cup champion, announced Tuesday that she will be on the Dutch reining team with Whizashiningwall BB at the WEG in Kentucky in four weeks.

Anky had been the reserve but the withdrawal of team member Jurgen Poul led to coach Caspar de Jonge to call on her to join the team.

“I’m excited,” she said of her first reining world championship. “I find it very exciting.”

She said that as the reserve she had been fully prepared and the vaccination program and transportation applications for Whiz were completed just in case.

“I will go for it and hope I can contribute a great achievement to our team!” she said.

Anky, 42 and the mother of two children, has won the World Cup a record nine times and has three Olympic gold medals. She took up reining 10 years ago.

Anky did not qualify for this year’s dressage team which is made up of Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas, Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival, Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Hunter Douglas Sunrise and Hans Peter Minderhoud and Exquis Nadine.
