SCHINDLHOF, Austria, June 27–Spain’s Beatriz Ferrer-Salat on her 9-year-old Delgado in his first year at Grand Prix won the Grand Prix Special at the Manfred Swarovski Gedächtnis Turnier CDI4* Sunday, while Germany’s Isabell Werth and Satchmo had difficulties with the piaffe and passage that pushed them into fourth place.

The Olympic and World Equestrian Games medalist and the Westfalien gelding by De Niro scored 74.125 per cent. Germany filled the next four places, Anabel Balkenhol on Dablino second on 73.458 per cent, Ulla Salzgeber on Wakana third on 72.458 per cent, Isabell and Satchmo fourth on 71.625 per cent and Anna-Katharina Lüttgen fifth on 70.625 per cent.

The difficulties for Isabell and the 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding occurred in the first extended trot, then the transition to passage and again in the piaffe/passage tour at G in front of the judges that scored them mostly 3s, 4s and 5s but with one score of two points by German judge Peter Holler. But the pair also received a 10 for travers from German judge Katerina Wüst.

The problems for Isabell and Satchmo were reminiscent of their difficulties in both the Special and the Freestyle at the 2008 Olympic Games.

The USA’s Tina Konyot on Calecto V, the only North American combination in the combination, finished in seventh place on 69.167 per cent.

In the consolation Grand Prix, France’s Marc Boblet on Whitni Star was first on 66.255 per cent, Austria’s Mayr Hannes on Ellis second on 63.745 per cent and Evi Strasser of Canada on Action Tyme third on 62.3838 per cent.
