LEXINGTON, Kentucky, June 9–Metropolitan Opera star Denyce Graves will perform at the Opening Ceremonies of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 25.
“I am delighted to come back to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and to have the opportunity to share my voice with the participants and fans of these World Equestrian Games,” said Graves. “I am particularly excited to be here with my daughter, Ella, who loves horses and is looking forward to a great experience in Lexington.”
The 2010 Games are the world championship competitions held once every four years in dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, reining and vaulting as well as para-equestrian at the Kentucky Horse Park from Sept. 25 through Oct. 10. WEG will be the largest sporting event in America in 2010.
Graves has captivated audiences around the world as a renowned mezzo-soprano. Making her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1995, Graves has starred in the title role in operas such as Carmen, and Samson and Delilah. Her performances have included a papal visit, several presidential inaugurations and a memorial service for victims of 9/11.
“Dencye Graves , who represents the epitome and elegance of classical music is an incredible coup for the Opening Ceremonies and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring her exquisite talent and presence to our audience,” said Dr. Everett McCorvey, whose company, Global Creative Connection, is producing the ceremonies.
Graves will be one of several performers in the Opening Ceremonies that will also feature more than 200 horses, a symphony orchestra and chorale showcasing Kentucky’s and America’s equestrian and musical heritage.
