HAGEN, Germany, Apr. 25–The Netherlands’ Jeanette Hazen on Nartan 4 won the Grand Prix Kür and Sweden’s Tinne Wilhelmson-Silfven on Favourit took the Special at the Horses & Dreams CDI3* on Sunday. Germany’s Hubertus Schmidt who had won both qualifiers was the runnerup in both competitions.
Competition is fierce as the start lists of this year’s European summer events have been swelled by a growing number of riders not normally based in Europe as they seek exposure in trying to qualify for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
In the Kür, Jeanette and the 15-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding scored 77.100 per cent while Hubertus on Hinnerk TSF scored 75.600 per cent and Austria’s Victoria Max-Theurer on Eichendorf 75.550 per cent.
German Olympian Nadine Capellmann and Elvis VA after a long absence from the competition arena came sixth on 74.900 per cent after scored 69.489 per cent in the qualifying Grand Prix.
The combination of Tinne and Favourit in the Special received 75.00 per cent with Hubertus and Donnelly 3 second on 74.37 per cent and Italian Valentina Truppa on Eremo del Castegno third with 73.80 per cent.
Competing for the first time outside the U.S., American Adrienne Lyle on Wizard 50 finished in eighth place on 69.84 per cent, after posting a score of 65.446 per cent for 13th place in the qualifier.
On Friday in the Grand Prix for the freestyle, Hubertus and the 11-year-old Trakehner gelding owned by German dressage chef d’equipe Holger Schmezer scored 71.659 per cent with Poland’s Katarzyna Milczarek on the Polish warmblood stallion Ekwador second on 70.127 per cent and The Netherlands’ Jeanette Haazen on Nartan 4 third with 69.617 per cent.
On Saturday, Hubertus on the nine-year-old Westfalen gelding Donnelly 3 won the qualifier for the Special with a score of 73.744 per cent, with countryman Matthias Alexander Rath on Sterntaler UNICEF second on 72.170 per cent and Tinne Wilhelmson-Silfven of Sweden on Favourit in third place with 71.744 per cent.
