WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Mar. 18–Courtney King Dye opened her eyes and followed pictures of her one-time competition horse Idocus and her dachshund, Viva, after moving to a so-called “step down” private room that is a lower level of intensive care on Thursday. But clinically, she remains in a coma from a horse accident 15 days ago.

Lendon Gray, her longtime mentor and coach, said the move to the step down level displayed confidence in the stability of her condition at St. Mary’s Hospital.

“Courtney followed with her eyes pictures of Idocus and Viva (her mini daschund) and even turned her head to look at it,” Lendon reported. “With her left hand for the first time has reached for something both up and across her body.

“The feeding tube was replaced to one directly to her stomach.”

Lendon said that Courtney remains in a coma and she is “not conscious” but may be coming closer to the surface.”

There are “positive signs,” she said, “but no miraculous change.”
