HARSKAMP, The Netherlands, Feb. 14–The stallion Gribaldi died Sunday of a tear in his aorta at the age of 17.
“With great pain and sadness in our hearts, we said goodbye to Gribaldi today,” Edward Gal said on his Internet site.
“A ruptured aorta proved fatal for him. His veterinarian was unable to save him.
“We can’t believe that this happened to you. You’ll be in our hearts forever. Rest peacefully, dear Gribaldi…”
Gribaldi’s sire was the Trakehner Kostolany who performed at Grand Prix level himself.
The death came just days after Gribaldi’s official retirement.
Gribaldi was a consistent top 10 performer ridden by Edward at international level Grand Prix from 2004 to 2006.
Among his offspring is IPS Painted Black, one of the top mounts of Anky van Grunsven.
