WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Jan. 22–Canada’s Ashley Holzer on her Olympic mount Pop Art claimed the Grand Prix for the Freestyle at the Gold Coast Dressage Association Opener World Cup qualifying competition Saturday to kick off the Florida winter circuit.

Ashley said that even if she qualifies for the World Cup Final in ‘s-Hertogenbosh, The Netherlands, Mar. 25-28 she will skip the event to focus on the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games at the end of September that is being held in North America for the first time.

Preparation for a Canadian short listed WEG squad includes competing at top European events into the summer.

The pair’s score of 71.489 per cent was the only one above 70 per cent of more than 30 combinations that started in the two classes, Grand Prix for the Special and Grand Prix for the Freestyle.

Denmark’s Mikala Munter Gundersen, a fulltime resident of Wellington, Flordia, rode Leonberg, owned by the Horses Unlimited to second place with a score of 63.830 per cent while Susan Jacomma on Wadamur was third on 63.191 per cent.

In the Grand Prix for the Special, Todd Flettrich and Otto finished at the top with a score of 67.872 per cent.
