ROSENDAHL, Germany, Dec. 6–Klaus Balkenhol, double Olympic gold medalist for Germany and former coach of the U.S. team, turned 70 on Sunday.

Balkenhol won team gold on Goldstern at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

He was coach of the U.S. for eight years until the end of 2008.

In addition to the U.S. team, top riders he has or is currently training include Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer and Germany’s Nadine Capellmann and Matthias Alexander Rath as well as his daughter, Anabel.
