DEL MAR, California, Mar. 23, 2024–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper, atop the current U.S. Olympic standings, won the CDI3* Grand Prix Saturday while Anna Buffini on Fiontini for only their second international competition took the World Cup Grand Prix.
The score of Steffen and the 16-year-old KWPN gelding which he rode on both the Tokyo Olympic and the 2018 World Equestrian Games silver medal teams, scored 71.978%, the lowest result for the partnership in four years.
“Unfortunately not a good ride today,” Steffen told dressage-news.com. “A mistake in the last one-tempi, and a loss of balance in the last piaffe. Mopsie was great, the rider was not as good as Mopsie today.”
Anna Buffini on FRH Davinia La Douce, the 17-year-old Hanoverian mare that the pair competed in two World Cup Finals, was runner-up on 68.522%.
Günter Seidel making the international debut on Jack, a 12-year-old Rhinelander gelding, was third on 66.826%.
Anna Buffini and the 14-year-old Danish Warmblood mare Fiontini won the World Cup Grand Prix on 69.761% in only the second CDI for the partnership that has put them into the third spot on the U.S. Olympic rankings. The pair scored 72.000% in their debut Grand Prix in early February.
The Grand Prix Special and the Freestyle are scheduled for Sunday.
