Devon Kane and Vamos won the TerraNova World Cup Grand Prix on a personal best score Friday.
Devon and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding scored 69.043% for the win on Florida’s Gulf Coast in extremely hot weather. The partnership of Devon and Vamos is nearing three years at Big Tour. Her family’s Diamante Farms of Wellington, Florida owns the horse.
A place in the top three–highly likely as there are only four in the musical freestyle Saturday–would put her atop the North American qualifying standings, knocking her husband Kevin Kohmann out of the leading position. This is the second of 10 World Cup qualifiers in North America leading to the final in Gothenburg, Sweden next March. Kevin won the circuit opener at Devon, Pennsylvania and is not competing here but entered in next week’s qualifier in Mexico City.
Christian Simonson on Fleau de Baian, the 16-year-old Dutch-bred stallion he competed on the U.S. team at the World Championships in August, was runner-up Saturday on 68.065%. Christian, also based in Wellington, was reserve champion on Indian Rock at the World Cup Final in Texas in April.
Quinn Iverson , also based in Wellington, rode the 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding Gremlin 41 to victory in the CDI3* Grand Prix on a personal best 69.696%.
