Kevin Kohmann on Sonata MF Claims Devon World Cup Freestyle, On Path to 4th Championship Final

DEVON, Pennsylvania, Sept. 26, 2026–Kevin Kohmann on Sonata MF claimed the World Cup Freestyle Saturday night, the first of nine North American qualifiers that puts the USA rider on the path to his fourth straight Final of the annual championship.

Kevin and the 11-year-old U.S.-bred mare riding to “Made in the USA” scored 77.105% in the first international musical performance for the partnership. This was only the third international competition since the mare was bought by Diamante Farms of Wellington, Florida and owned by his mother-in-law, Terri Kane.

“This mare is amazing!” he declared after the victory.

“I cannot thank Maryanna Haymon enough for breeding such a top quality mare with a heart of gold.

“This was our second time going through our freestyle, we only got the music a week ago. My wife (Devon Kane) and mother-in-law picked her music to celebrate Sonata MF for being Made in the USA. I think she likes it.

“I am so proud of Sonata and grateful she chose me.”

Kevin competed in the last three World Cup Finals on the Diamante-owned Dünensee.

The winner earns 20 points with the best three results on the circuit counting toward qualifying for the Final scheduled for Gothenburg, Sweden next March.

He overcame the top two placings in the Grand Prix by Canadian World Championship riders.

Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu on Jaccardo, 12-year-old Dutch-bred gelding was awarded 76.515% for runner-up in the Freestyle, the same placing the pair had in the Grand Prix.

Camille Carier Bergeron on Finnlanderin who won the Grand Prix on the 16-year-old Oldenburg mare placed third in the Freestyle on 76.505%.

World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for Toronto and Mexico City as well as one in California and five in Florida, one each at Terra Nova near Sarasota and Ocala and three in Wellington.

Erin Nichols, 23 years old of Yorba Linda, California, and Elian Royale swept the CDI3* with a Grand Prix Special victory on 69.447% following a Grand Prix result of 67.087%.

This was the second double victory this year for Erin and the 17-year-old Dutch-bred gelding. The duo has been sucessful on both sides of the Atlantic in youth and Big Tour competitions.
