Benjamin Ebeling’s victory on Bellena in the inaugural US Open final has boosted the 26-year-old rider to the top American on the latest world rankings released Monday.
The FEI–International Equestrian Federation rankings as of the end of November–ranks the rider based in Wellington, Florida at No. 22 in the world, up from 34th the previous month and the first time as the top American.
Ben and the 15-year-old mare captured top place in the $250,000 event that was rated as a CDI5* at Thermal, California two weeks ago, making it eligible for points to count toward world rankings.
Kevin Kohmann, also of Wellington, was the second highest ranked U.S. rider at No. 35, up from 37th the previous month.
Anna Marek of the Ocala area community of Dunnellen who completed the lengthy US Open qualifying as the leading rider, was 53rd in the latest world rankings, a drop of 10 places from the previous month.
Marcus Orlob of Loxahatchee, a community neighboring Wellington, dropped to 55th from the ranking-leading 30th spot the previous month as he and Jane, his Paris Olympic ride, have not competed since July.
