The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic equestrian competition schedule was confirmed Wednesday, with dressage horse inspection July 18 and the wrap up Grand Prix Freestyle as the individual final on July 24.

Dressage is scheduled between the opening eventing and the closing jumping competitions at Santa Anita Park in the Los Angeles community of Arcadia, the same location as the 1984 Olympic horse events.

The FEI–International Equestrian Federation–released the schedule of 16 days of sports with a total of 200 horses starting July 14, the day the Games officially open and end July 29, the day before the closing ceremony. The FEI said the timetable is provisional and subject to change. The equestrian schedule at the Paralympic Games will be announced later.

Eventing will be the first equestrian discipline in competition with the horse inspection July 14.

Competition begins the following day, July 15 at 9:00 local time (18:00 Central European time) with eventing dressage over two days. Cross country will be July 17 and the first equestrian medals of LA28, team and individual eventing finals, will be awarded July 18 following the stadium jumping.

Dressage horse inspection will be conducted the morning of July 18 before the eventing finals.

Dressage Grand Prix will take place over two days July 20-21 followed by the Grand Prix Special July 22 that will decide the team medals.

No competition is scheduled the following day with the dressage second horse and jumping inspections taking place.

The dressage individual final–the Grand Prix Freestyle–will take place July 24.

Jumping team qualifier is scheduled for July 25 with the team final July 26.

The second jumping horse inspection and re-inspection will be held July 27, followed by the jumping individual qualifier July 28.

Jumping individual final on July 29 will conclude the LA28 Olympic equestrian calendar.

“We are very pleased with the progress in preparations for the LA28 Olympic equestrian events accomplished over the past few months and look forward to continuing our close cooperation with the organizing committee over the next three years,” said FEI President Ingmar De Vos.

“The IOC’s confirmation that equestrian would retain the same medal events and quota places as for Paris 2024 is a very positive development as is the approval of Santa Anita Park in Arcadia as the venue for all the equestrian competitions. A solid basis has been set and we anticipate truly outstanding LA28 Olympic equestrian events in a wonderful setting.”

A record-breaking 50 nations participated in equestrian at the Tokyo Olympics. Paris in 2024 saw 49 countries. Thirty nations competed in equestrian at Los Angeles in 1984.
