All 11 horses, including two from the USA and three from Germany, in the €300,000 (US$346,000) World Cup event in the Mexico City area passed veterinary inspection Thursday.
Kevin Kohmann and his two-time World Cup Final mount Dünensee, 16-year-old gelding, and Devon Kane on the 13-year-old gelding Vamos represent USA in what may be the richest non-championship dressage competition ever in North America.
Devon is married to Kevin, and her family at Diamante Farms in Wellington, Florida owns Dünensee.
Ingrid Klimke, the Olympic eventing gold medalist and ranked 20th in the world in dressage, and the 13-year-old mare First Class is one of the three Germans in the competition.
Matthias Alexander Rath, ranked 28th, is riding Destacado FRH, the stallion that was reserve in the World Championships as a five-year-old and is now aged 12.
Evelyn Eger is the third German on Tabledance, the 12-year-old mare she partnered at Wellington’s winter-long Global Dressage Festival to stand as second highest in prize money.
Ecuador’s Julio Mendoza Loor, based in North Carolina, is riding his Paris Olympic mount, Jewel’s Goldstrike.
The Grand Prix with €100,000 in prize money is scheduled for Saturday and the €200,000 Freestyle for Sunday.
