With one year to the World Championships of six equestrian disciplines in Aachen, Germany Aug. 11-23, organizers released details that includes dressage in the main stadium before 40,000 spectators .

Already hailed for success of the 2006 World Equestrian Games and the 2015 European Championships as well as the more than century-old annual CHIO, the Aug. 11 opening night pageantry will include the parade of nations, a quadrille of 64 stallions from German state studs and various international royal families in majestic horse-drawn carriages.

Dressage, eventing and vaulting are on the agenda for the first week, followed by show jumping, four-in-hand driving and para dressage in the second week.

“The dressage competitions in the Main Stadium will be an absolute highlight,” said Birgit Rosenberg, Head of Sport for Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein that is organizing the championships.

The Main Stadium is typically the exclusive domain of show jumpers but was also the center of dressage in 2006 and 2015.

Para dressage and vaulters will be staged in Stadium 3–the dressage arena during the CHIO and that seats up to 6,300 spectators–which is being roofed especially for the championships.

“It is very important to us to integrate the para riders in the midst of the event,” said Birgit Rosenberg.

Stefanie Peters, president of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein, said: “It is a great honor for us to host these important championships. We will do everything in our power to offer the equestrian sport a stage that will do more than justice to this international highlight.

“Our goal is for Aachen to continue to be seen as the global flagship of equestrian sports in the future and to set new standards for major international events.”

The event is the first major qualifier for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. USA, as LA28 host, automatically qualifies for the Games irrespective of results at Aachen.

Individual events are already sold out. Tickets are available here online, telephone +49-241-9171111 or from the offices of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein.
