Remy Bastings of the Netherlands on Forrest Gump won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle in Brno, Czech Republic Sunday a day after capturing the Grand Prix.
Remy and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 74.090% in the pair’s second musical performance since the Dutch rider took over competing Forrest Gump last October. The score earned him 20 points to join the growing list of Western Europeans collecting marks ahead of the start of highly competitive Western European circuit in the Fall.
Lithuania’s Justina Vanagaite-Samuile on the 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding Nabab was runner-up on 73.830% that moved the duo into the lead in the Central European standings from which two horse and rider combinations will qualify for the Final in Fort Worth, Texas next April.
Justina and Nabab have an extensive competition record including the 2024 Olympics, the 2022 World Championships and the 2023 and 2024 World Cup Finals.
Frederic Wandres, who rode on Germany’s gold medal team at the Paris Games last year, placed third on Verrenberg with 73.325%.
This was the first international event for Verrenberg, a nine-year-old Oldenburg stallion owned by Hof Kasselmann of Hagen, Germany where Frederic is a stable rider.
