DEL MAR, California, Mar. 23, 2025–Anna Buffini on Fiontini on Sunday won the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle with a divided judging panel placing her coach, Günter Seidel on Equirelle, a close second.
In their first competition in almost nine months Anna and the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood mare were awarded 73.235% with two judges ranking the pair first, two second and the fifth in third.
Anna, based nearby in Rancho Santa Fe, and Fiontini, captured the Grand Prix Saturday on 69.000%, with a low of 66.196% and third place from one judge.
The last competition for Anna and Fiontini was on the U.S. team at the Nations Cup in Aachen, Germany last July.
Günter, a three-time USA Olympian who also lives nearby, at Cardiff, rode Equirelle, 16-year-old KWPN mare, to a result of 73.080% that included two first placings on the two highest scores of the competition, 75.175% and 74.200%, and a low of 70.525%. The duo placed third in the Grand Prix.
Kristina Harrison-Antell of Los Angeles and Finley, 15-year-old KWPN gelding, placed fourth on 68.140% in the four-combination class after runner-up in the Grand Prix.
Canada’s Brittney Simpson on on the 14-year-old KWPN stallion Kartsevo Goldfinch was third on 72.010%.
Shannon Peters of San Diego on the 17-year-old KWPN gelding Disco Inferno won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special on 67.723%.
