DEL MAR, California, Feb. 15, 2025–Geñay Vaughn rode Gino to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday to earn a start in the championship Final along with fellow American Adrienne Lyle on her Olympic mount Helix. She also moved into a tie at the top of the $250,000 U.S. Open leaderboard.
Geñay and the the 14-year-old KWPN gelding were awarded 74.370% for their third qualifying victory to claim the maximum of 60 points and a start in Basel, Switzerland, the first week of April and the first senior championship for the 30-year-old rider.
With three of the 18 places at the Final assigned to North America, one more needs to be decided that will be at the last qualifier of the season–in Wellington, Florida at the end of this month. The top two riders are Kevin Kohmann and Anna Marek, both of USA and who competed at the Final in Saudi Arabia in 2024.
This was the sixth straight victory for Geñay of Elk Grove, California and who began competing Gino at Big Tour two years ago.
The rider competed in three North American Youth Championships including a team silver medal performance in 2012.
Kristina Harrison-Antell of Los Angeles and Finley, 15-year-old KWPN gelding, was the runner-up combination on 70.910%.
Canada’s Brittney Simpson on Kartsevo Goldfinch, 14-year-old KWPN stallion, scored a personal best 69.020% for third.
