WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Jan. 19, 2025–Charlotte Jorst rode Zhaplin Langholt to victory in the Gold Coast Opener CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday to claim a share of the lead in the $250,000 US Open series.

Charlotte, based in Wellington, and the 12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding scored 73,985% for their first Freestyle victory. The pair began Big Tour at this same show a year ago.

Charlotte and Zhaplin earned 20 points in the third of 24 qualifiers to tie Californian Geñay Vaughn and Felicitas Hendricks of Germany at the top of the standings for the final to be staged in Thermal, California Nov. 12-16.

Charlotte and Atterupgaards Botticelli won the Grand Prix Special a day earlier.

Micaela Mabragaña of Argentina on Belatrix RH was runner-up on 67.490% that earned the duo 17 points in the freestyle that had only two entries. Micaela and the 13-year-old American-bred Hanoverian mare won the Grand Prix two days earlier and her placing Sunday moves her alongside four other combinations tied for second on the current leaderboard.

The US Open series of United States competitions in dressage, eventing and jumping but open to riders from all nations has been designed to build support for the Olympics to be staged in Los Angeles in 2028.
