ACHLEITEN, Austria, June 14, 2024–Victoria Max-Theurer on Abegglen FH NRW won the CDI4* Grand Prix by a big margin Friday to set the Austrian up for the Paris Olympics that will be her fifth Games. Victoria on Birkhof’s Topas FBW also captured the Grand Prix for the Freestyle.
Vitoria and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding Abegglen scored 73.283% for the victory in the Grand Prix to qualify for the Special.
The 38-year-old rider’s first Olympics was at Athens in 2004 followed by Hong Kong for the Beijing Games in 2008, London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. On Abegglen, she went to Tokyo but had to withdraw when the horse suffered a tooth infection.
She returned to Europe to compete in the European Championships later the same year as well as the 2023 Europeans.
Italy’s Francesco Zaza on the 12-year-old KWPN stallion High Hopes W was runner-up on 69.109% in the Grand Prix for the Special.
Lisa Müller of Germany on Gut Wettlkam’s Zonic Hit OLD, 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding, was third on 68,543%.
Victoria on her 2022 World Championship mount Birkhof’s Topas FBW, 13-year-old German Sport Horse stallion, was awarded 71.282% to capture the Grand Prix for the Freestyle.
Germans Laura Strobel on Valparaiso, 13-year-old Westfalen stallion, was runner-up on 70.717% with Lisa Müller on the 12-year-old Hanoverian stallion Gut Wettlkam’s D’avie FRH third on 70.435%.
