OCALA, Florida, May 24, 2024–Naïma Moreira Laliberté on her 17-year-old Statesman won the World Eqestrian Center CDI3* Grand Prix Friday on the highest score in two years for the Canadian partnership.
Naïma and the Hanoverian gelding were awarded 70.370% for the victory and the only pair of 10 starting combinations at 70% in one of the last competitions in North America before the June 9 deadline for Canadians seeking to earn a start on the team of three for the Paris Olympics. However, Ryan Torkkeli pn Sternenwanderer, a contender for a place on the team, is competing in Europe this weekend.
At Ocala, Naïma led a Canadian sweep of the top three places.
She returned to North America after more than a year training in Spain.
Her successes include the 2019 team gold medal performance at the Pan American Games in Peru and bronze at the 2023 Pan Ams in Chile.
Jill Irving on Genesis, 13-year-old KWPN stallion, was runner-up on 68.261%.
The Tokyo Olympic teams combination of Chris von Martels on Eclips, 15-year-old KWPN gelding, were third on 67.348%.
