Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Falsterbo, Sweden have pulled out of the Dressage Nations Cup series and instead opted to follow the lead of the Word Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany and invite preferred teams.
The change in the status of the two team competitions was announced Friday by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) that had set new rules for this year requiring the events to be open to any teams that wanted to participate.
Rotterdam will remain as a CDIO5* June 20-23 and Falsterbo as a CDIO4* July 11-14.
Neither competition has announced the formats to follow but the United States European tour ahead of the Olympics has determined Rotterdam as a key competition to select the team of three for Paris.
Aachen announced in February it was pulling out of the series as it preferred a format of inviting the top six European countries and the United States.
The FEI Dressage Nations Cup series began this year at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida. The next event is scheduled for Compiegne, France May 2-4 followed by Pilisjászfalu in Hungary May 8-12.
