OCALA, Florida, April 12, 2024–Adrienne Lyle on Helix won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday for the second Big Tour victory in two days with her Olympic and World Games medalist teammate Kasey Perry-Glass on Heartbeat W.P. emerging as a serious contender for the U.S. Olympic “short list.”

Adrienne won Friday’s Grand Prix on the 12-year-old KWPN gelding Helix on a personal best 73.065% in the third straight win in four starts since the horse arrived in Florida from Sweden three months ago. Adrienne on Salvino and Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper are the only two American riders ever to win Olympic and World Championship silver medals which they did at Tokyo and in Tryon at the WEG.

The victory on Helix in a starting lineup of 24 combinations in the Grand Prix for the Special came a day after she rode Lars van de Heiderheide to win the Grand Prix for the Freestyle which she will ride Friday night for the first time on Lars.

“I was thrilled with him today,” Adrienne said of Helix. “He is a horse that has an incredible drive. From the second he got here, it’s a new riding, new style, different program, but he’s so open to letting you mold him however you want to. I’m just incredibly impressed with his character. Now he’s doing a back-to-back CDIs, which is not something I’ve ever done before.” The duo competed at TerraNova in Florida last week.

Kasey Perry-Glass on Heartbeat W.P., a 12-year-old KWPN gelding that her family bought last November, was awarded a personal best 71.065% in the fifth Big Tour start for the partnership.

Endel Ots on Zen Elite’s Bohemian, a 14-year-old Westfalen gelding placed third on 70.782%. Superstar rider Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour rode Bohemian for Denmark at the Tokyo Games and the 2021 European Championships.

Both horses competed here by Adrienne as well as Bohemian were bought by Heidi Humphries and her Zen Elite Equestrian Center of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the end of 2023.

The three horses as well as other new combinations such as Kasey on Heartbeat have given a big boost to the morale of U.S. dressage as Salvino, Kasey’s mount Dublet and Sabine Schut-Kery’s Sanceo were all retired.

The “short” List of up to eight combinations will be selected in early May to go to Europe to compete for places on the team of three at the Paris Olympics.

In addition to this weekend’s Ocala CDI, Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper and Anna Buffini on Fiontini are competing in a CDI4* in Del Mar, California also in pursuit of selection to the “short” list.

“I was really happy just with his overall rideability. His piaffe-passage is always great. I’m working on the canter working the changes now, I can start to relax and cover a little more ground, ride them a little bit more forward, maintain that small carriage… It’s kind of starting to get a bit more solid through all parts of the test.

“He’s a hot horse, naturally, in a good way. He’s filled with energy and he tries incredibly hard.”
