OCALA, Florida, Feb. 15, 2024–Julio Mendoza Loor rode Jewel’s Goldstrike to a personal best score to easily win the CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday in the first international performance since the Pan American Games gold medal ride last October.

Julio, who rides for his native Ecuador but lives in Columbus, North Carolina, and the 13-year-old KWPN gelding were awarded 74.869% for the victory. It was the 19th win in 22 starts since beginning Big Tour in Wellington, Florida two years ago.

Jan Ebeling of Wellington and the 14-year-old Hanoverian mare Bellena, the only other combination in the Grand Prix for the Freestyle, scored 66.674%.

Julio and Goldstrike were awarded at least 75% by four of the five judges, but 71.630% by Germany’s Thomas Kessler.

In addition to Pan Am Games gold, the partnership swept the Bolivarian Games in June 2022.
