OCALA, Florida, Dec. 6, 2023–Kevin Kohmann rode Dünensee to a personal best score to win the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle under lights Friday night and enhance his prospects of earning his first ever start at the championship Final.
The score of 77.720% for Kevin and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding was the second personal best in as many days having won the Grand Prix Thursday. The result boosted him to second place in the current World Cup standings for North America that gets to send three rider and horse combinations to the Final of the annual championship determined by the musical performance and scheduled for Saudi Arabia next April.
“Wow, I am still shocked,” Kevin said of the Freestyle for which the music was prepared by Nicole Pendzich of Dusseldorf, Germany. “I have never gotten a score like this, never won a freestyle. So a lot of firsts. What an amazing week. Doesn’t matter what happens tomorrow, I am winning.”
Jennifer Williams of Olympia, Washington and Joppe K, a nine-year-old KWPN gelding that began Grand Prix in February, was runner-up on 75.680%.
Anna Marek of the Ocala area community of Dunnellen on the 13-year-old KWPN gelding Fayvel placed third on 75.235%.
