STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 18, 2023–Isabell Werth on the 17-year-old Emilio was the clear victor in the German Masters World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday in the German rider’s first qualifier for this season’s Final.
Isabell and the Westfalen gelding scored 86.880% for the win in the third of 11 qualifiers in Western Europe leading to the Final in Saudi Arabia next April. The duo won the Grand Prix Friday.
Isabell, the most successful Olympic equestrian in history, has competed in 24 of the annual Finals, including five titles, over the past 30 years.
However, Emilio has not been among the 10 horses that she has so far taken to a Final.
Denmark’s Nana Skodborg Merrald was runner-up on Blue Hors Don Olymbrio, 15-year-old KWPN stallion, scoring 82.965%. It was the duo’s first qualifier for the annual championship centered on the Grand Prix Freestyle but adds 17 points to scores attained on other horses to bring 51 and consolidate her second ranked position in Western Europe.
Patrik Kittel of Sweden already at the top of the WEL standings placed third on Bonamour, 13-year-old Westfalen stallion, with a personal best 81.340%.
The next WEL qualifier is Madrid next week.
