THERMAL, California, Nov. 17, 2023–Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday while the partnership of Erin Nichols and Elian Royale captured the CDI3* Grand Prix in their first Big Tour competition.

Steffen and the 15-year-old KWPN gelding competing for the first time since the World Cup Final in Omaha in April scored 74.804%.

The score was the highest in the current Grand Prix standings to qualify for the Paris Olympics next summer which, if he is selected for the United States team, would be the rider’s sixth beginning with Udon in Atlanta in 1996. The German-born Steffen who has been based at San Diego, California for many years was on the U.S. team that earned silver at the Tokyo Olympics two years ago.

Tina Caldwell of Rancho Santa Fe, California, on Lagerfeld K, 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion, was the only other combination in the class and scored a personal best 67.326%.

Erin Nichols, 20, of Yorba Linda, California on Elian Royale, 14-year-old KWPN gelding, scored 66.478% to win the CDI3* Grand Prix, the duo’s first Big Tour competition after summer competing in Under-25 and Young Rider competitions in Europe.

Shannon Peters on Disco Inferno, 15-year-old KWPN gelding, was runner-up on 66.022%.
