WELLINGTON, Florida, Oct. 10, 2023–A decision by Wellington’s local government on changes to zoning of the current Global Dressage Festival grounds for development of multi-million dollar homes was delayed Tuesday for five weeks with new plans for fewer houses.
The decision by the Village of Wellington council centers on the changing the current zoning that would remove the property from the Equestrian Preserve so as to allow residential and retail development.
Council members said that the developer group had proposed reducing the number of residences from the initial plans for 300 homes.
Details would be worked out ahead of the proposed date of a decision set for mid-November.
If approved, the Global Dressage Festival would have to move from its home for the past decade to an area adjoining the grounds that host the Winter Equestrian Festival of jumpers and hunters.
However, the owner of the available property has indicated the sale of the property for new dressage show grounds depends on approval of changes sought for the current Global grounds.
The hunter-jumper grounds were bought by the European-based Global Equestrian Group two years ago and re-named Wellington International.
