BRNO, Czech Republic, June 4, 2023–Morgan Barbançon and Sir Donnerhall II OLD, her Olympic and world championship partner, won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday to give the French rider an early lead in Western Europe’s standings to qualify for the Final next April.
Morgan and the 17-year-old Oldenburg stallion that have competed together almost nine years–seven at Big Tour–scored 77.420% for the victory, a day after capturing the Grand Prix. That gives the rider two victories in the Central European League so far this year for a total of 30 points that Morgan takes back to Western Europe, five months before that circuit starts.
Morgan had a successful winter at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida on a string of horses other than Sir Donnerhall who remained at home . But the pair’s career includes the Tokyo Olympics, the 2022 World Championships, four World Cup Finals including Omaha earlier this year and 2019 and 2021 European Championships.
Germany’s Antonia von Dungern and the 12-year-old German Sport Horse DSP Queen Rubin was runner-up on 74.650%.
Astrid Neumayer of Austria and the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding Zap Zap were third on 73.620%.
The next Central European qualifier is at Pilisjászfalu in the Budapest region June 7-11.
