WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 12, 2023–Adrienne Lyle rode her Olympic and World Games team silver medal mount Salvino to a mistake-free performance to win the Grand Prix Thursday and the midway point in qualifying for the championship Final in Omaha in April.

Adrienne of Wellington and the 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion scored 77.500% for the victory a month after sweeping the first of three qualifiers required to be selected for Omaha.

“He’s just always so incredible in the ring; went in today another mistake-free test,” Adrienne said after the ride. “He took a little look at the spectators which was funny because when we showed here in December there were no spectators. When we came around the corner he said, ‘Oh, the bleachers are back.’

“Then he really settled into it by the end of the test. By the final centerline he really settled into the rhythm for his piaffe-passage work,” that she described as “super; I love to see him finishing with that much energy and enthusiasm.”

“I think we have more in the tank for the Freestyle, so I’m excited about that.”

The Freestyle to decide points for the World Cup will be Friday night, the highlight of each of the seven weeks of the winter-long circuit that draws several thousand spectators creating a party atmosphere.

The Freestyle will be streamed on https://gdf.coth.com/category/live_streams

Adrienne, who has competed Salvino in only one other World Cup Final, at Gothenburg, Sweden in 2019, said the main goal of this season is the World Cup in Omaha.

Sarah Tubman, also based in Wellington and her 2019 Pan American Games gold medal mount First Apple, 12-year-old KWPN stallion, placed second on 70.500%.

Sweden’s Caroline Darcourt on Lord Django, 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding, was third on 70.283%.

Caroline, competing in Wellington for the first time since 2020, had earlier won the CDI1* Prix St. Georges on Bournonville on 73.029%.

Steffen Peters of San Diego, California and Suppenkasper are atop the North American League standings fulfilling the maximum of three qualifying victories for 60 points and likely to be one of three horse and rider combinations from North America to be invited to the Final of the top 18 in the world

Alice Tarjan of Oldwick, New Jersey and the American-bred Serenade MF are second on 57 points.
