EXLOO, Netherlands, Jan. 5, 2023–Charlotte Fry, newly ranked world No. 1 equestrian athlete, rode Dark Legend to victory Thursday in the CDI3* Grand Prix, the first international dressage competition of 2023. Charlotte also captured the CDI1* Prix St. Georges on Jackson, in the international debut of the nine-year-old gelding.
Charlotte of Great Britain and the KWPN gelding that officially turned 15 years old on Jan. 1 was awarded 73.783%. Four of the five judges put the pair first with Susanne Baarup of Denmark placing the duo as runner-up to Denmark’s Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Vayron. Lottie also placed sixth with 71.913% on Don Joe and seventh on 69.087% on Lars van de Hoenderheide.
The top horses competed by Lottie, as the 26-year-old rider is popularly known, are Glamourdale ranked No. 1 in the world, Everdale, ranked ninth and Dark Legend 16th.
Charlotte and Dark Legend last competed internationally more than six months ago on Britain’s Nations Cup team at Aachen, Germany and following the duo’s appearance in the 2022 World Cup Finals in April.
Charlotte lives in the Netherlands where she competes horses for Van Olst, a breeding, training and sale business.
Daniel and Vayron, 12-year-old Westfalen stallion scored 72.652% in only the second CDI for the partnership. The horse was previously competed through Small Tour by Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg.
Fellow Dane Charlotte Heering on the 17-year-old gelding Bufranco placed third on 72.565%.
In the St. Georges, Charlotte and Jackson scored 72.108%.
