MADRID, Nov. 25, 2022–Frederic Wandres rode Duke of Britain FRH to a personal best score to win the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday in pursuit of a trip to Omaha for the Final of the championships.
The German world championship bronze medal team partnership of Frederic and the 15-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding scored 84.830% for the win.
Fellow German Helen Langehanenberg on Annabelle, 14-year-old Holsteiner mare, were awarded 80.035% for runner-up.
Netherlands’ Thamar Zweistra and Hexagon’s Ich Weiss, the eye-catching gray nine-year-old NRPS stallion, also posted a personal best of 79.660% for third place to earn enough points to move up to third place in the standings for Western Europe that gets to send nine horse and rider combinations to Omaha in April.
Morgan Barbançon of France and Sir Donnerhall II OLD, 16-year-old Oldenburg stallion, placed fourth on 78.220% and boosted the pair to second in the WEL behind Benjamin Werndl.
This competition was a return for Frederic and Duke of Britain to competition after the world championships in August.
Frederic has become a regular competitor at the winter-long Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida as the rider for Hof Kasselmann of Hagen, Germany.
Canada’s Naima Moreira Laliberté and Statesman, 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion, were sixth on 74.980%.
The next qualifier for Western Europe is in London Dec. 14-19.
