Performances by America’s Alice Tarjan on Serenade MF helped boost the Oldenburg stallion Sir Donnerhall to third place behind Johnson at No. 1 and Quaterback second in the world dressage sire rankings for 2022.

Johnson by Jazz moved back to the top spot where it had been in 2020. The best offspring was Edison, the successful 13-year-old gelding competed by Belgium’s Laurence Vanommeslaghe who competed at Wellington’s Global Dressage Festival for the first time last winter. Hexagon’s Double Dutch ridden by Thamar Zweistra and Boston STH with Denise Nekeman, both of the Netherlands, added to Johnson’s record.

Quaterback, who died in 2021 was up to second from fifth in 2021, with top results from Isabell Werth’s DSP stallion Quantaz followed by Patrik Kittel of Sweden on Touchdown and Quater Back Junior ridden by Nicolas Wagner Ehlinger of Luxembourg.

Sir Donnerhall, the Sandro Hit son climbed to third from fourth on the success of nine-year-old Serenade MF competed by Alice Tarjan of Oldwick, New Jersey, in the first year at Grand Prix. The partnership was reserve for the U.S. team in the world championships. The horse was bred by Maryanna Haymon of Columbus, North Carolina. Serenade’s half-sister, Valentine, competed on the U.S. world championship team by Ashley Holzer of Wellington is Sir Donnerhall’s second most successful offspring.

Totilas was 4th place, previously 7th; Jazz dropping two places to 5th; Blue Hors Zack to 6th up from 27th in 2021; Fidertanz dropping one spot to 7th; Sandro Hit, the 2021 top sire, fell to 8th; Bordeaux up to 9th from 17th, and Vivaldi stayed at No. 10.
