MILL CREEK, North Carolina, Oct. 29, 2022–Alice Tarjan and the American-bred Serenade MF on Saturday won the Tryon World Cup Freestyle for the second victory in a bid to qualify for the Final in Omaha.
The win on the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare boosted Alice of Oldwick, New Jersey to the top of the North American League that gets to start three of the 18 riders in the final of the annual world championship.
Alice and Serenade, born in Columbus about four miles/6.5km from the Tryon International Equestrian Center, won the qualifier in Devon, Pennsylvania a month ago. Alice will spend winter at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida where there are four World Cup events before the Omaha final.
She and Serenade spent the summer in Europe where the pair was reserve for the American team at the world championships.
Julio Mendoza Loor and Jewel’s Goldstrike placed second on 74.185% after winning the Grand Prix Friday. Julio who is based in Columbus rides for his homeland of Ecuador.
Julio and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding competed in their first two CDIs in Wellington last winter.
Over the summer, Julio dropped Jewel’s Goldstrike back to Small Tour to compete for Ecuador at the Bolivarian Games in Bogotá to sweep the Prix St. Georges to lead his team to gold as well as winning the Intermediate 1 and Intermediate Freestyle.
This was the third North American League World Cup qualifier, with seven more to go–three at Thermal, California–the first Nov. 17-20–and four in Wellington, Florida–the first Dec. 8-11.
