Bidding to host the 2026 World Equestrian Championships began Monday with a call for expressions of interest and a final decision to be made next June.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) said it will consider bids for any of the seven disciplines–except dressage and para-dressage must be together–or the entire lineup of horse sports such as the World Equestrian Games format that was implemented once every four years from 1990 to 2018.

The FEI announced the 2026 bidding format as:

Phase 1: Expression of interest (Oct. 24, 2022)

Phase 2: Bidding (Mid-January – April 14, 2023)

Phase 3: Review of bids (Mid-April – June 9, 2023)

Phase 4: Allocation (June, 2023)

This year was the first for separate championships since the WEG format that was held once every four years from 1990 to 2018.

Dressage, Para Dressage, Jumping and Vaulting were held in Herning, Denmark with Eventing and Driving in Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy and Endurance in Vic, Spain.
