Denmark won team gold, Britain took silver and Germany bronze.
Spectators packing the 10,000-seat stadium frequently clapped in unison, especially while riders and horses were on the final centerline.
The fans were more effusive in cheering the success of the British pair after the ride triggered audible sucking in of breaths for the spectacular movements.
Lottie said she never before had the feeling experienced with Glamourdale in the soccer stadium under lights late at night.
Entering the arena with “the crowd going crazy before you even start that already was exciting .”
“He knew he needed to show off. As soon as the music started it was the most insane feeling,” said the 26-year-old rider who is coached in Holland by Dutch multi Olympian Anne van Olst.
“He was dancing to his freestyle. I felt I could sit there, enjoy it. I was listening to the crowd singing along and getting excited about the extended canter.
“It was the best feeling in the world. I’ve never had a feeling like that, never ridden a test like that. This is easy exactly what mum and dad were paying for–arenas like this music like that and floor plans like this. It was all perfect tonight.”
Becoming a member of the 90% Club created by dressage-news.com to honor the achievement, she said, was still sinking in.
“I got very, very emotional in the beginning when we found out. Now I’m just kind of in shock. It’s just incredible. It’s something you only think you can ever dream of. And now it’s reality.”
