AACHEN, Germany, June 29, 2022–Showtime FRH that made a remarkable recovery to be ridden by Dorothee Schneider to win this year’s German Championships is out of the world championships in Herning, Denmark after the two-time Olympic gold medal horse was pulled from the CDI4* here.

The 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding was reported by the German federation to not be “fresh” in training after passing the veterinary check Tuesday. The Aachen World Equestrian Festival was the second selection event for Germany, the first being the national championships at Balve earlier this month. The Balve competition was the first for Showtime in nine months.

The withdrawal of Showtime that was on the German gold medal teams at the last two Olympics further hurts Germany’s chances of  adding another world championship to its record of winning gold at all but two events since the first global dressage team competition in 1966.

“The way to the championship team leads through three tests in Balve and a start at the CHIO Aachen,” said Klaus Roeser, chairman of the German Olympic Dressage Committee. “It’s bitter to have to do without such a strong pair.” e

Top German team prospects includes Benjamin Werndl on Famoso, Isabell Werth on Quantaz, Ingrid Klimke on Franziskus and Frederik Wandres with the Duke of Britain.

A powerful Danish lineup competing here that includes world No. 2 Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour on Bohemian as well Vamos Amigos along with Carina Cassøe Krüth on Heiline’s Danciera, Nanna Skodborg Merrald on Orthilia and Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Marshall-Bell is given its best ever chance of becoming world champion for the first time.
