BALVE, Germany, June 11, 2022–Dorothee Schneider and Showtime FRH took German Championship gold Saturday by winning the Grand Prix Special a day after claiming the Grand Prix. Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain was reserve.
Dorothee and Showtime scored 83.686% for the victory in the first major competition for the 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding since the Tokyo Olympics last July.
Showtime was ridden by Dorothee on gold medal teams at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics and the 2019 European Championships.
Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH, a British-bred Hanoverian gelding, was the runner-up combination in the Special on 79.980%.
Frederic and Duke, ranked 16th in the world, have competed on German teams at Nations Cups but never a championship.
Isabell Werth on DSP Quantaz, a 12-year-old German Sport Horse stallion ranked No. 6 in the world, was runner-up on 78.215% from the ground jury of five German judges.
Along with the CHIO in Aachen at the end of the month, Balve is key in selection of the team of four riders and horses for the world championships in Herning, Denmark in early August.
Germany has won seven of the eight world championships staged once every four years.
