COMPIÈGNE, France, May 22, 2022–Sweden produced a dominating performance to capture the CDIO5* Nations Cup gold Sunday with Spain taking silver and Belgium bronze while the United States became the third team eliminated from the lineup that started with nine countries. Great Britain’s Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale topped the Grand Prix Special while Germany’s Isabell Werth and DSP Quantaz won the Freestyle.
Patrik Kittel, a three-time Olympian and triple world championship rider, and the 10-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding Touchdown was the top finishing team combination in the Freestyle while team mates Juliette Ramel on Buriel K.H. and Antonia on Curiosity were second and third, respectively, in the Special.
The final standings: 1. Sweden 16 points; 2. Spain 48; 3. Belgium 51; 4. Portugal 77; 5. Switzerland 78, and 6. France 83. The British and Dutch were eliminated as teams in the Grand Prix and the USA eliminated as a team in the Special when Jan Ebeling on Bellena was eliminated for apparent blood in the mouth of the horse thus leaving the only two American combinations.
This Nations Cup, with three combinations on a team so no drop score, was the second in the trans-Atlantic series. The first in Wellington, Florida in March was won by Germany but did not count as only three nations participated.
Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale placed atop the Special with a score of 76.638% after capturing the Grand Prix a day earlier on a personal best score of 79.435%. The Freestyle score for Isabell Werth and Quantaz was 85.875%.
The next Nations Cup in the series is scheduled for Rotterdam June 23-26.
