ERMELO, Netherlands, May 8, 2022–Dinja van Liere and Hermès won the Dutch Championship Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday after Emmelie Scholtens withdrew a “not fit” Desperado on which she won the Grand Prix a day earlier.
Dinja and the 10-year-old KWPN stallion were awarded 83.155% by the all-Dutch panel of judges. The pair was runnerup in the Grand Prix and are early favorites for the Dutch team at the world championships in Herning, Denmark in three months. The duo was the highest placing Dutch partnership at last September’s European Championships.
Thamar Zweistra on Hexagon’s Ich Weiss, a nine-year-old NRPS stallion, placed second on 78.670%.
Marieke van der Putten on Totilas son Tørveslettens Titanium RS2 was third on 77.950%.
The withdrawal of Desperado that came too late for her to substitute her Freestyle entry with Indian Rock on which she placed third in the Grand Prix.
The latest setback comes just weeks after Dutch champion Edward Gal announced a break and Hans Peter Minderhoud last week pulled his top horse, Glock’s Dream Boy, from the championships.
